Our family first had this recipe when visiting Aunt Stasia and Uncle Toby in Taylor, WI in about 1965. This is a perfect recipe for left over ham. This is a make-ahead recipe.
Ingredients:
- 12 slices of wheat bread with crusts cut off
- 1 lb. ham, ground
- 4 eggs
- 1 c. grated cheddar cheese
- 2 c. milk
- optional: prepared yellow mustard, Poupon
Butter both sides of bread. Lay six slices in the bottom of a greased, flat 9x13 pan. Sprinkle ground ham and cheese over the first layer of bread. Add remaining slices of buttered bread. You may spread a little prepared mustard over the top slices. Beat eggs, add milk and pour over all. Refrigerate overnight. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour.
