Molasses Crinkles

The mother of a college friend mailed a tin of these cookies to him.  Thanks for sharing P.J.!


Preheat oven to 375°.


  • ¾ cup Crisco® vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • ¼ cup molasses
  • 2 ¼ cup flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking soda
  • ¼ teaspoons salt
  • ½ teaspoons ground clove
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon ginger


Mix in the order given. Form dough into balls the size of a walnut. Dip in white sugar. Bake 9 to 10 minutes. Cookies will appear to be puffy and doughy. Allow to cool on pan for 4-5 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
Recipe makes about 2 dozen cookies.
